Rutherford County Mayor Speaks at Spaghetti Dinner, Gets Ignored

RUTHERFORD COUNTY, TN - Friday February 25, 2022 a group of Republicans and Independents from all around Rutherford County gathered at the LaVergne Multi-Purpose Building (at City Hall) for a spaghetti dinner. For those of you who don't know, spaghetti dinners are typically held before Primary Elections as a way for voters to meet candidates prior to voting in May, it's also the first real opportunity for candidates to make an impression with the voters.
One of the first candidates up to speak was incumbent Rutherford County Mayor, Bill Ketron. As this election season is already proving to be anything but normal, Thursday night was no different. What does that mean? Oftentimes, when the most prominent party member for the county stands to speak a majority of the room will pause to listen. As you will see in the video below, that was not the case with Mayor Ketron's speech. Instead of providing the incumbent Mayor with their undivided attention, the noise from the room makes hearing the speech impossible. Don't worry, I'm not going to make you listen to the entire thing, just enough for you to understand how disinterested the crowd was in listening to what Mayor Ketron had to say.
The lack of enthusiasm for Mayor Ketron could be explained away in many ways. Some say the lack of energy is due to Ketron's competition; former State Representative Joe Carr and current Rutherford County Commissioner Rhonda Allen are both challenging him in the Primary. Others say it could be due to the numerous scandals the Mayor has been involved in over the last few years, including fines for violating campaign finance laws and his daughter's criminal insurance fraud charges.
It's still early in the race, but if Ketron was banking on voter enthusiasm to help him defeat Joe Carr and Rhonda Allen in the Primaries, he has his work cut out for him. (Video is embedded below, scroll down)
