Houston, Tennessee has a problem!

Today in Tennessee Segment 10/30/26

I'm Daniel Wagner with the Patriot Punk Network, giving you 3 Tennessee stories in 3 Tennessee minutes.

This is our Today in Tennessee Segment, brought to you by Estate of Creative where you can get 10% off any sofa or sectional by mentioning Punk!

Let's Go!!

Round 1

Governor Bill Lee wants Tennessee to host the new United States Space Academy, but are our students equipped to compete?

The Academy is a proposed campus for future astronauts, engineers and scientists and the state is pitching Coffee County, near Arnold Air Force Base and the UT Space Institute.

But it's not a done deal. Right now it's just a bid with at least another 8 states in the running.

But before we reach for the stars, why don't we check the launchpad first?

In 2024, only 31 percent of Tennessee eighth graders were proficient in math on the Nation's Report Card, and 32 percent in reading.

Houston, we have a homework problem.

And, to be fair, Tennessee has improved.

One analysis says we climbed from 42nd to 16th nationally over time.

But "less bad than before" doesn't exactly help us meet rocket-science-level qualifications.

So here's the question: if this academy lands in our backyard, who fills the seats? Will Tennessee kids be ready to compete for them, or will we build the launchpad and import the astronauts?

Round 2

In Wilson County, a local investigation grew into a multi-agency operation targeting a distribution network linked to the Sinaloa Cartel.

The reported seizures across the investigation include hundreds of kilograms of illegal substances—and more than $375,000 in cash.

Three hundred seventy-five thousand dollars, and I can’t even afford to spring for an extra subscription service.

Authorities say 24 people were arrested and federally indicted and they seized weapons and vehicles as well.

Vehicles. Plural. And I’m over here turning down the radio to see if my car noise went away.

But here’s the part that deserves attention: Some of these gang leaders allegedly directed operations from inside Tennessee correctional facilities.

How exactly do these people run their operations from behind bars?

I can't even afford to Biggie Size my Wendy's combo

Round 3

An 11-year-old child was safely recovered in Murfreesboro after an FBI investigation led to the arrest of a local man.

According to the FBI and Murfreesboro police, 26-year-old Dylan Osborne allegedly contacted the child online for illegal purposes, picked the child up in Willard, Ohio, and brought the child to Tennessee.

On October 25th, agents conducting surveillance observed Osborne making advances toward the child.

They entered his apartment under emergency circumstances and promptly arrested him.

Osborne now faces a state charge of 🍇  of a child. Authorities say federal charges and additional Ohio charges are pending, but not yet filed.

Murfreesboro police say their license-plate readers, Real Time Crime Center, special victims unit, and patrol officers assisted.

And as a result, Osborne is currently in jail being held on a $100,000 bond

To the parents out there…

We tell kids not to talk to strangers—but what should we teach them about someone online who no longer feels like a stranger?
