OVERTON COUNTY – A local Assistant District Attorney has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of an investigation.

In a story first exposed here at the Patriot Punk Network, questionable mileage reimbursement requests submitted by Assistant District Attorney Jessie Mayberry have raised some questions and resulted in a Comptroller’s Investigation.

Between the months of September and December of 2024, Assistant District Attorney Jessie Mayberry submitted over $3,000 in mileage reimbursements almost entirely composed of the same trip.

The mileage forms showed Mayberry claiming mileage reimbursement for a 44 -mile roundtrip from the Cookeville DAs office to the Livingston DA’s office nearly every day. Our sources say Mayberry was not even at work on some of the days she logged mileage to and from the two locations.

On Monday, July 7th, District Attorney General Bryant Dunaway placed ADA Mayberry on paid leave pending the outcome of the investigation by the Comptroller of the Treasury.
Mentioned in the Memorandum issued by General Dunaway is also a “confrontation” between ADA Mayberry and another employee. The Memorandum notes that ADA Mayberry did not view her interactions as confrontational.

We have not been able to determine the nature of the alleged confrontation, but believe it occurred after we reported that the Comptroller had seized the laptop ADA Mayberry used for work.

Since the publication of our original story, it has come to light that ADA Mayberry may have also been having financial difficulties as of late, including being sued by Harpeth Financial, the company more commonly known as Advanced Financial, one of Tennessee’s largest Payday and Title Loan lenders.

As an Assistant District Attorney, Mayberry earns over $100,000 per year. To put this in perspective, the median income for a household in Overton County is under $47,000. She will continue to earn her usual pay until the conclusion of the Comptroller’s investigation.

Depending on the final results of the investigation, the Comptroller will send their final report to General Dunaway for any further action. If wrongdoing is found and criminal charges are levied against Mayberry, General Dunaway will likely request a pro tem prosecutor because he signed off on the documents in question.

We will continue to follow this case and bring you updates as they are available.
