Congressman Scott DesJarlais announced that he's signed Vice President JD Vance’s pledge to protect vulnerable Americans from fraud.
The pledge calls for protecting taxpayer-funded benefits, preventing their misuse for luxury purchases, and holding people who commit fraud accountable.
DesJarlais also highlighted stopping benefits from going to people in the country illegally.
But, as we all know, signing a pledge isn't the same as passing a law, recovering stolen money, or producing savings… especially ahead of a major election.
The announcement identifies no new legislation, funding, or enforcement action—so, on its own, this looks more symbolic than something likely to change the average Tennessean’s day-to-day life.
A signature makes a nice Facebook post. The results still need receipts.
But in the meantime, if you want to help examine waste, fraud, and abuse closer to home, check out TNDOGE.com—our new tool focused on those issues right here in Tennessee.
This amazing tool will walk you through EXACTLY what steps to take to hold your government accountable, including who to speak with, where and how to submit records requests and more
Because announcing accountability and actually doing the work are two different things.
Round 2
A Hamilton County sheriff’s deputy is on administrative leave after being arrested on a DUI charge in Williamson County.
The Sheriff’s Office says Deputy Brandon Goins was arrested Wednesday and Sheriff Austin Garrett was notified, and an internal affairs investigation is underway.
Which brings us to that old familiar government classic:
“We investigated ourselves and found no evidence of wrongdoing.”
Why do we need an internal investigation, exactly?
Now, to be clear—that hasn't happened here. No findings have been announced, and of course Goins is presumed innocent at this time.
His criminal case will be in Williamson County, separate from his department’s internal investigation.
The department says his administrative leave is pending the outcome of both proceedings and has directed questions about the arrest to Williamson County authorities.
So we’ll keep an eye on what both investigations actually produce.
That's two rounds down and one to go…
Round 3
Nashville is getting a nonstop connection to Paris—and no, not Paris, Tennessee (although, that would make for an interesting announcement as well)
Air France will begin flying between Nashville International Airport and Paris–Charles de Gaulle on May 14, 2027.
BNA and the airline celebrated the announcement this week.
The seasonal service will operate Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays aboard an Airbus A350-900, with connections through Paris to destinations beyond France.
And BNA dressed for the occasion, lighting up airport buildings in blue, white, and red—the colors of the French flag.
Apparently, a Facebook announcement alone wasn’t quite French enough.
Tickets are now available, with Nashville departures scheduled for 6:55 p.m., arriving in Paris at 10:15 the following morning, local time.
So next summer, you can leave Music City in the evening and wake up headed for croissants.
Of course, you’ll still have to survive the trip to the airport first.
That was your TN news roundup.
