Round 1
Test scores in Tennessee just hit a major milestone, and the State is proud!
Yesterday the Tennessee Department of Education announced a 4% increase in science proficiency over the last year.
Which with all the money our state spends on education, sounds good, right?
Well, it is, because now HALF of TN students are at least proficient in science!
Buuuut, despite my Tennessee Edumacation, I figured out that leaves the other 50% NOT proficient
So I thought to myself, science is tough, maybe we're just not that good at it. And looked it up,
Turns out Science is actually tied with Social Studies for our strongest subject!
Coming in 3rd with a whopping 42.3% proficiency score is English
And, bringing up the rear, MATH, where only 41% of students are at grade level
To be fair, it's a vast improvement over a few years ago, and we should recognize that, but, I'm not sure we are at the "brag about it on Facebook" level yet
Got any ideas on how we improve?
Round 2
It looks like Williamson County is gonna sell their hospital
Nothing is official yet, but last night they had a special called meeting where they agreed to sign an exclusive, non-binding, letter of intent with Ascension St Thomas
The meeting came just a week after 9 new commissioners were sworn in, and just weeks after a major screw up at Ascension left several people paralyzed
2 motions were proposed.
1 to defer the Letter of Intent a few weeks, which obviously failed.
Supporters cited concerns Ascension could lose their ability to accept Medicare because of the recent flub up as well as loads of emails asking commissioners to "pump the brakes"
No one voiced opposition to selling the hospital, due in large part to local financial woes,
It was the "exclusivity" part that bothered them especially with a decision on Medicare expected in the next 10 days
The agreement includes 700 million in cash plus another 270 million in other improvements
It allows for further due diligence by both parties and will mean Williamson County cannot negotiate the sale with any other buyers for at least 120 days.
It passed 16-8.
If the deal eventually goes through, it will be the largest transaction in County history
That's 2 down with 1 to go, and if you like getting your news in less than 3 minutes, smash those buttons so we pop back up tomorrow!
Round 3
O Charley's may have closed it's doors for good.
The Nashville born franchise that's been serving those hot buttered rolls for 55 years announced sudden closures of several locations AND deactivated their social media
All of the corporate owned stores seem to be hit and with no public statement by the company it's unclear what the future may hold
The sudden closures affected the restaurant's spinoff Underground Chuck's too
And leaves servers, cooks, and bus boys jobless and looking for answers
In Lebanon it even leaves a dog that lives behind the store without a source of food.
We went to the website this morning and it 404'd.
All of this together tells us none of you should hold your breath waiting on a severance package.
